In my household, loving garlic is a close second to cake. And here I am breathing all over your comments... Made for AU-NZ #74 recipe swap.

You can stop your search -- this is the definitive recipe for garlic bread. The nutmeg is a touch of genius. I'm really glad you included a weight for the bread, as it let me make the right amount of butter for two small but heavy multigrain baguettes. Used fresh parsley and 4 cloves of garlic. Skipped the black pepper as one of the guests is not a fan. Thanks so very much for posting.

Awesome! Not a lot different to how I normally make garlic bread but the lemon was a nice twist. Only change I made was I didn't have any fresh parsley so used some garlic chives instead.

We had this with your Gnocchi, Mark's Recipe and it was a HUGE hit! :) I make my own french bread and didn't have time for it to rise a second time, bake, cool, slice, butter and put back in the oven. So....I made your recipe spread per ingredients and rolled out my dough as if I was making cinnamon rolls. Slathered on the garlic butter, rolled up the dough, let rise a bit and bake, then sliced. There wasn't any left! Loved the flavor of the garlic butter. I will be making this often! Thanks for sharing. :) Made for the June 2010 Aussie/NZ recipe swap.

Great recipe. Great flavour and is so easy to make. Think I might make a larger batch and freeze some. Love the idea of freexing the butter also. Thanks Jan for a great garlic bread recipe.

So easy to make, & WHAT A GREAT TASTE! I also like I'mPat's idea about making the butter & freezing it for a later use! AND, since I've been making bits & pieces of things to include in my holiday gift bags, I'm seriously considering making some of this to include in a small container, along with the cranberry orange butter I've already made! Thanks for sharing the recipe! [Tagged, made & reviewed as a PRESSIE in the Aus/NZ 12 Days of Christmas Recipe Swap]

I halved the recipe as I only had a small bread stick (which did 4 well) and we really enjoyed. Though I did slice the stick all the way through, buttered and reassembled (easier to pull apart after cooking). Forgot to open foil for last few minutes of cooking (but would recommend - prefer it crispier). Will make this butter again and freeze in log form for use later. Thank you JustJanS - made for Edition 4 - Make My Recipe - a game of tag.

Yum! I couldn't go into town today to pick up some French bread so I made French Bread ("Rapid Rise"), and used this recipe to turn it into garlic bread. The flavour was really yummy and directions were so easy to follow. Thank you JustJanS

Thank you for posting this Jan. I just love this garlic bread and I promise I'll always butter both sides of the bread!
